Health Equity, Culture and Community

St. Elizabeth Healthcare is committed to helping each person be their healthiest self. To create the healthy communities we envision, we seek to connect culturally competent care with compassionate, dignity and respect.

Our journey centers around three foundational areas of focus: health equity, culture and community (HECC).

Building a future with Health Equity, Culture and Community

Health Equity

We strive to achieve equitable outcomes for patients and their families so each patient can become their healthiest self. Equitable outcomes require culturally competent care leveraging data to improve health outcomes. We employ many tools and strategies to help meet each patient’s needs and goals.

Examples include:

Interpreter and Translation Services

We provide free interpretation and translation in 20+ languages, ensuring all patients can fully engage in care and access our services. Patients can access their health information in MyChart, which supports 11 languages and regularly adds more to enhance care.

Patient and Family Advisory Council

A Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) unites patients, families, and clinicians to improve care quality and safety at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, with members being current or former patients or caregivers passionate about enhancing patient experiences.

UPS Cologuard Pilot

The UPS Cologuard drop-off initiative helps rural patients conveniently return their colon cancer screening kits.
St. Elizabeth is the first healthcare organization to provide this type of resource to patients in our communities, with three office locations currently offering UPS drop-off boxes:
Butler, Dillsboro and Dry Ridge.

Culture

Our team members have the opportunity to join one of six (6) associate resource groups intended to provide connection to each other and our communities. Similarly, leaders and associates are invited to participate and learn more through activities and dedicated learning resources that deepen understanding, cultural competence and empathy. Come join our team. Learn more at careers.stelizabeth.com.

Examples include:

Associate Resource Groups (ARGs)

ARGs are voluntary, associate-led groups supporting St. Elizabeth culture building strategies. They are key to our Health Equity, Culture, and Community strategy, focusing on women, veterans, LGBTQ+, young professionals, multicultural, and neurodivergent audiences.

Cultural Intelligence Training

St. Elizabeth offers training and micro-learnings to help associates work effectively across cultures by understanding differences, adapting behavior, and navigating situations that may be unfamiliar. Examples include respecting diverse perspectives and maintaining cultural awareness in interactions.

HECC Cultural Inclusion Pledge

All St. Elizabeth staff are invited to take the Health Equity, Culture, and Community pledge, whether in self-reflection, team meetings, or group settings, to demonstrate their HECC allyship.

Community

In line with our vision to help our region become one of the healthiest communities in the nation, we continually work to enhance community partnerships and engagement, especially to support the underserved. We develop programs that collaborate with local organizations to address key needs for the whole of our community. Want to know more? Email us at hecc@stelizabeth.com.
